Premier League Team of Week 12

Premier League Team of Week 12: Rose like a Salomón

Six of the top nine performers on our leaderboard for this week are centre-backs, so our team has switched to three at the back. Our XI contains seven ‘team of the week’ debutants, but two players from last week retain their place. Here’s our full Premier League team of week 12, and we begin with a goalkeeper who did his damnedest to earn his team three points.

Goalkeeper: Jonas Lössl. Huddersfield Town 1-1 West Ham United.

Huddersfield lead for 68 minutes on Saturday. That’s almost half of their tally for the whole season, so shouldn’t be underestimated. That they were ahead for so long was in no small part thanks to Lössl, who saved two clear-cut chances.

Premier League Team of Week 11

Premier League Team of Week 11: Well played, Mr. Anderson

You know the drill by now. We compile a leaderboard for the weekend’s games, and pick the bones out of it to hammer it into a vaguely cohesive XI. Here’s our Premier League team of week 11.

Goalkeeper: David de Gea. Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United.

Rival fans like to joke about where United would be if de Gea ever left; ‘League One’ is the most common response. That may sound extreme, but with six saves (including one clear-cut chance) he kept his side in the game long enough to win it yet again. Read More

Premier League Team Of Week 10

Premier League Team Of Week 10: Fab performances all round

After the events at Leicester, the health issues of Glenn Hoddle and an elderly fan dying at the Brighton match, the football seems the least of anyone’s concerns this week. The show must go on, though, so here’s our Premier League team of week 10.

Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford. Manchester United 2-1 Everton.

Sometimes there isn’t a goalkeeper in the top 50 performers of the week. However, there’s no such issues this time as Pickford was rated as #9. It’s rare to see an open-play chance worth almost as much as a penalty in expected goal terms, but Anthony Martial had one here and the Everton ‘keeper kept it out. Add in a penalty save too, and Pickford amassed the most defence points this week. Read More

Premier League Team Of Week 9

Premier League Team Of Week 9: If we can all be more like Rüdiger

Another week, another 26 goals scored. Some of our players featured in five goal wins while others appeared in goal-less stalemates though. Here’s our Premier League team of week 9.

Goalkeeper: Mat Ryan. Newcastle United 0-1 Brighton.

There’s no way to be nice about it: Brighton’s record on the road since they reached the Premier League has been abysmal. It would be worse were it not for Mat Ryan. He saved a clear-cut chance while the score was 0-0 at Newcastle, then made five more saves after the Seagulls took the lead. The Australian amassed the third most defensive points this week, so is worthy of his spot between the sticks. Read More

Premier League Team of Week 7

Premier League Team of Week 7: Two Harrys and Sterling Silva

It’s week seven in the Premier League, and almost a fifth of the 2018/19 campaign is in the bag already. The game of the weekend was Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool, but only players from one side in that match make it in here. We also have seven debutants, including some very big names showing their faces in these parts for the first time. The Premier League team of week 7 begins with a player who only played one half of their match.

Goalkeeper: Bernd Leno. Arsenal 2-0 Watford.

Leno replaced Petr Cech in the Gunners’ home win over Watford, yet despite only playing for 47 minutes, he topped our defence leader board this week. That he was able to do that probably explains why there are no Arsenal defenders in this team. Read More

Jorginho Premier League Team Of The Week

Premier League Team of Week 6: Jorginho the pass master

There’s a breath of fresh air about our team of the week in week six. For the first time we’re going with a 4-2-3-1 formation. There’s no sign of regulars like Tarkowski, Pogba or Hazard, and we have a whole host of debutants. The likes of Harry Maguire and Jorginho both win their second TOTW caps of the season, with the latter putting in the performance of the week.

But did he actually contribute all that much at the London Stadium? We’ll come to that in due course, and we’ll begin with a shot stopper who hasn’t received too many positive notices in 2018/19. Read More

Eden Hazard Premier League Team Of The Week

Premier League Team of Week 5: The Duke is Hazard

It won’t surprise anyone to see that Eden Hazard features in the headline, as a hat-trick will always propel a player into our team of the week. Our 3-4-3 formation also contains one of the performances of the season so far, and a TOTW regular earns another cap. But we begin with a goalkeeper who hasn’t had the best time of it over the last few years.

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart. Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 Burnley.

Joe Hart was a busy boy on Sunday. He made six saves, including two from clear-cut chances. Most distressingly for Burnley, on our algorithm he was their top player in an attacking sense too. Things are looking bleak for Sean Dyche’s team at present.  Read More

Romelu Lukaku Premier League Team Of The Week

Premier League Team of Week 4: Lukaku Bullied Burnley

Romelu Lukaku Premier League Team Of The WeekIt had to happen eventually: James Tarkowski‘s reign of terror is over. In fact, he didn’t even make the top 50 players this week, and in light of the name of the article, you can probably guess why. Still, the Burnley defender remains the only player in the Premier League with three team of the week appearances this season, so he shouldn’t be too disheartened. We do have a player from last week returning to join Alli and Pogba on two caps though, and we begin our round up with a stunning goalkeeping performance.

Premier League Team of Week 3: Harry Maguire’s Game

Harry Maguire Premier League Team Of The Week

James Tarkwoski and Paul Pogba were both in our teams of weeks one and two, but did either or both of them make it a hat-trick? One thing is for sure, there were a lot of excellent performances by centre-backs this week, so we’ve naturally switched to a back three to accommodate them. Oh, and if you want to share a dashboard, click on the player’s name in the text above it, and it’ll take you straight there. On with the show… Read More
