Premier League Team of Week 22: Salah days

After utilising a back three last time out, we’ve gone with a 4-4-2 this week. Here’s our Premier League team of week 22, and get set for plenty of Manchester based players.

Goalkeeper: David de Gea. Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Manchester United.

United scored first once in their 13 league games at fellow big six sides under Jose Mourinho. That was at Arsenal, and David de Gea put in a stunning performance to ensure his side won. The Spaniard repeated the trick here.  Read More

Premier League Team of Week 21: PEA Shooter

As enjoyable a match as Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Liverpool was, not one player from that game made it into our XI. An abundance of centre-backs and strikers high up the rankings means we’ve gone for a 3-4-3 this week. Here’s our Premier League team of week 21.

Goalkeeper: Ben Foster. Bournemouth 3-3 Watford.

How does a goalkeeper who concedes three goals earn a spot here? By being one of his sides top attackers.

Premier League Team of Week 19: Pogba Boxes Clever

Boxing Day often provides a feast of football; if you haven’t seen that image of the scores from 1963, where have you been? Enjoying your Christmas as you should be, nice one. Here’s our Premier League team of week 19.

Goalkeeper: Neil Etheridge. Crystal Palace 0-0 Cardiff City.

Cardiff are unlikely to pick up many points on the road – this was just their second in nine games this season – so Etheridge’s contribution to this one shouldn’t be underestimated. Read More

Premier League Team of Week 18

Premier League Team of Week 18: Jesse’s Full House

There were loads of goals this weekend – with 34, only the second week of the season can top it. We’ve got some goalscorers who would you expect, but which defenders emerged relatively unscathed from this goal fest? Here’s our Premier League team of week 18.

Goalkeeper: Ben Foster. West Ham United 0-2 Watford.

Foster was vital to the Hornets’ win in east London – he made seven saves, including two from clear-cut chances. Read More

Premier League Team of Week 17: Henry Mac and Shaq attack

Another week, another trio of wins for the top three while Manchester United serve up more dross. Sounds boring, but there was plenty to enjoy. Here’s our Premier League team of week 17.

Goalkeeper: Lukasz Fabianski. Fulham 0-2 West Ham United.

Football matches so often come down to moments. Fulham had three clear-cut chances to West Ham’s one, but Fabianski saved the two which the home side put on target, while the visitors scored theirs.  Read More

Premier League team of week 16: Mo Mo Mo – how do you like it?

Our Premier League team of week 16 has four debutants, and three of them play for Manchester United. See what happens when you try to attack, Jose? Playing the side with the worst defensive record in the division clearly helps, in fairness.

Mohamed Salah’s hat trick obviously assured his spot here, but who else is in our XI? Let’s take a look at who the Twelve algorithm has taken a shine to this week. Read More

Premier League Team of Week 15

Premier League Team of Week 15: Main man Mahrez

Is it really a ‘week’ when it all takes place midweek? It’s the key question of our confused times, I’m sure you’ll agree. Here’s our Premier League Team of Week 15.

Goalkeeper: Ben Foster. Watford 1-2 Manchester City.

The Watford stopper was second in the defensive chart to Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka, but he chipped in with a couple of high value long passes (as we can see here) to take the goalkeeper slot. Read More

Premier League Team of Week 14: Chicharito the MexiCan

It was another entertaining weekend in the Premier League, culminating in Divock Origi’s ridiculous winner on Sky’s derby day. The phrase ‘lies, damned lies and statistics’ is well worn, but when you see who our goalkeeper is this week, you’ll want to use it again. The Twelve algorithm is a powerful beast, but it must be used wisely. Anyway, here’s our Premier League team of week 14.

Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford. Liverpool 1-0 Everton.

The 232nd Merseyside derby will be long remembered for the bizarre circumstances in which it was decided. Nobody in their right mind would call Pickford the best goalkeeper this weekend, yet on points he was. England’s #1 made a high value save from Shaqiri, and was strong in the air for the opening 95 minutes at the match. Shame about the last minute, Jordan. Read More

Premier League Team of Week 13

Premier League Team of Week 13: Aladdin Sané

Our Premier League team of week 13 features six debutants. Some are from struggling clubs, and some are Leroy Sané. But all have earned their place here, and can be found in the upper echelons of this week’s leader board. Let’s see who our algorithm has selected for the XI.

Goalkeeper: Wayne Hennessey. Manchester United 0-0 Crystal Palace.

Hennessey topped the defence leader board in week 13, thanks mainly to making five saves (including one from a clear-cut chance). But he also won four aerial duels, which was the joint-most by any player in their own half in this match. For context, Ederson, Fabianski, Lloris and Schmeichel have won four in total this season.
