The 2018/19 season is almost over, but players are still putting a shift in. They’re not all on the beach yet. Here’s our Premier League team of week 37.
Goalkeeper: Mat Ryan. Arsenal 1-1 Brighton.
Ryan made seven saves on Sunday, and was only beaten from the penalty spot.
Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold. Newcastle United 2-3 Liverpool.
Trent crowned his place in our team of the season by assisting two goals at Newcastle. The young full-back was our top player this week.
Centre-back: James Tarkowski. Everton 2-0 Burnley.
Burnley certainly haven’t had the best season defensively, but Tarkowski keeps showing up in our weekly round ups.
Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk. Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool
Our man of the year strikes again. Where were the Newcastle defence for his free header though? Not in this team, that’s for sure.
Left-back: Nacho Monreal. Arsenal 1-1 Brighton.
Being fouled for a penalty was the highlight of his performance. Not a brilliant weekend for Premier League left-backs, clearly.
Midfield: Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Chelsea 3-0 Watford.
Not many subs get in here, but coming on in the 10th minute always helps. A goal doesn’t harm, either.
Midfield: Joao Moutinho. Wolves 1-0 Fulham.
Could Moutinho be destined for the top six? And will that be with Wolves next year?
Midfield: Ilkay Gundogan. Manchester City 1-0 Leicester City.
Gundogan provided his usual mixture of defensive work and incisive passing.
Forward: Andros Townsend. Cardiff City 2-3 Crystal Palace.
Much like the whole Palace team, Townsend comes alive on the road.
Forward: Marko Arnautovic. West Ham United 3-0 Southampton.
It’s been a difficult season for the Austrian, but he scored twice to sign off at the London Stadium on a high note. But was he signing off for 2018/19, or for good?
Forward: Eden Hazard. Chelsea 3-0 Watford.
Hazard’s final appearance in a Premier League team of the week? Quite possibly.
