Premier League Team of Week 27: Deadly Deulofeu

The match between Manchester United and Liverpool was so devoid of quality, none of their players made the top 20 on our leader board. But algorithms are weird; players from teams which took a battering this weekend do feature in the XI, which we’ve set up as a 3-4-3. Here’s our Premier League team of week 27.

Goalkeeper: Jonas Lossl. Newcastle 2-0 Huddersfield.

The Terriers may have lost, but Lossl made ten saves so deserves his spot here.

Centre-back: Bruno Ecuele Manga. Cardiff 1-5 Watford.

High value actions in both six yard boxes helped Manga earn a spot in our team.

Centre-back: Sol Bamba. Cardiff 1-5 Watford.

His side may have conceded five, but Bamba did at least get on the score sheet.

Centre-back: Harry Maguire. Leicester City 1-4 Crystal Palace.

Maguire was a busy boy on Saturday. Switch the ‘only important actions’ switch if you don’t believe me.

Midfield: Ayoze Perez. Newcastle 2-0 Huddersfield.

Perez is worth his spot here for making a ball recovery in the opposition penalty box, if you ask me.

Midfield: Etienne Capoue. Cardiff 1-5 Watford.

Capoue picked up a 2nd (a.k.a. ‘hockey’) assist, and clearly put in a strong defensive shift as the multiple red markers indicate.

Midfield: Luka Milivojevic. Leicester City 1-4 Crystal Palace.

If Palace get a penalty, Luka usually scores it and usually takes a berth in our team too.

Midfield: Wilfried Zaha. Leicester City 1-4 Crystal Palace.

Zaha scored the final goal of the Claude Puel era at Leicester, hammering the final nail in the Frenchman’s managerial coffin.

Forward: Gerard Deulofeu. Cardiff 1-5 Watford.

Our man of the week scored the eighth hat-trick of the 2018/19 Premier League season. He’ll head to Anfield full of confidence on Wednesday night.

Forward: Troy Deeney. Cardiff 1-5 Watford.

Watford had the top two players this week, with Deeney providing Deulofeu with able support at the top of the rankings.

Forward: Alexandre Lacazette. Arsenal 2-0 Southampton.

Lacazette took the final spot on our team, just ahead of Newcastle’s Salomon Rondon. Sorry, Salomon.
